The waste water is neutralized using an alkaline agent such as slaked lime, or soda – together with a settling agent. Thus, the pH is found between from 1-2 to 7-10 depending on the amount of rinsing water used. The heavy metals are then be separated from the neutralized clear water as sludge. This sludge is disposed of which is then treated by a third party affiliated to the Mumbai waste management system.
